On the 18th I took off with Nick, who was ready to go back to New Zeeland. Although the faithful loyalty of friends and coast pretty much cured him during the week. We split up in Quito and I went for a three day visit to La Hesperia.
It is also a neat reserve of Jatun Sacha’s organization and to be found in the cloud forest. It is located on top of a hill an hour east from Santa Domingo. In spite of the lovely black bloody sand flies, which turned my ankles into a biting battlefield within two hours of working in a blackberry pitch, I prefer my station!
I truly enjoyed the “bosque” (forest hike) along the river and the bath under the waterfall though. Plus they have mandarin trees and cows which I tried to milk the other morning.

After another day in Quito with Anastasia, seeing “De Ja Vu” eating city-food, I found my way back to the jungle where three new volunteers had had arrived. Meanwhile there is another five new people and a rainy week of sweltering humidity has passed. Tomorrow the environmental group “Greenforce” will show up for the second time volunteering conveying 11 new volunteers.
People come and go like the blisters on my hands. The food in Sacha doesn’t change unlike the tide of the Napo and I’m ready for spring and carnival in this… blogspot letter…
