Agosto 21

I’m writing english , ´cause that’s the main lenguage spoken in the hostal „Posada del Maple“ at the moment. Mathew from Heidelberg (26 años) left this morning. I was thinking about switching to this place but I realy like my room at the Floresta and the fact that I pay the amigo price. It’s also just a ten minute walk since I finally menaged to find the shortest way without anz detours. The last rwo days we reallz did quite a lot. „We“ – is supposingly Mathew, Eva, Pedro, Ana and I.
On the 19th I decided to look for the "Posada" because I knew there was a girl from the volunteering programm stying I met at Felipe’s office the day before. When I arrived slandering through the streetz of Quito to mz surprise the girl introducing herself in the lobby's armchair of the PDM, was Eva. Right next to her sat an optimistic looking girl named Ana, straight from Boston. The third person in the room aside was Methew. The guys told me they were just waiting for a taxi to make a trip through Quito. Since I didnt have any plans I just accompanied them integrating this bound of volunteers.
We got into this private white Taxi whose driver seemed really OK.
The first sight of the trip was a approximately. 30 min. ride up the streets.-
„Medo Ciudad del Mundo“. The Aquator in Ecuador with a monument and a sunclock in between many ecuadorian specialities. The next stop was a hill with a nice view over a vulcano and some donkey standing in the greens. There I saw some of the most impressive „ recuerdas“ I’ve ever seen. I might go there again!
After that we were driven to the ruinas of the Inkas which used to be the real center of the earth. There again we had a great view over the mountain rich area. After that we drove back to the hostal and I got ready at my hotal for the night. Pedro a 32 year-old from Portugal living in Barcelona, visiting friends in Quito brought us to a bar and later to a discothek not far from the hostal.
The next day I again arrived after a rather unusall good brakefast at the hotel and steped in action calling a taxi for the next trip.
This time we went to another altitude attraction. The „Terrefericos“ A gondula which elevated the four of us, Pedro missing up to 4200 meters. Ana and I even made it higher up half way to the next piek passing some pilgrims with horses from were we saw the city with a slightly differed fresh air consistency. It was great!
Back in the hostal we chilled a while untill I went with Ana to look for a ping-pong ball we needed for the college well-none bear-pong game, she introduced us. Not having any luck finding one we almost got robbed by these amateure Ghetto-kids. We escaped crossing some streets and cooked soem spaghetti with tomato sauce before we had a fullfilling story night exchange listening to music till 2AM.

Today Eva and I finally figured out how to get cash out of the ATM-machines and started the registering process. Luckely we were acompanied by a woman from the Jatun Sacha office. Otherwise we’d probably needed twice the time.
Once we got back to the hostal we had the spaghetti left overs for lunch and called a Taxi to succed our next plans in Quito. Ana, Eva, Pedro and I went to a little park up a hill, with view over the south of Quito were the poverty in the slums makes it a dangerous envirin.
We walked aroud the park passing a soccer field to this glas house which was once imported in pieces from Hamburg. From this place yoe can see Old-town with the cathedral and the mayor seat. That’s were we went afterwards... – Plaza Grande, Iglesias y Biblioteca.
The oldest and most beautifull rated church of south and north America was impressive enough for Pedro deciding to hold a nap infront of teh altar. He had seen it before.
From Oldtown we walked through half of Quito back to the Mariscal district having a bite from the „ panatería“ arriving in dusk.
